The Texas Gaming Association polled a thousand registered voters across the state to see what they think about legalizing a limited number of destination resort casinos across the state including here in San Antonio.

Spokesman Scott Dunaway says 67% of those polled support destination resort casinos and 86% believe the legislature should let the voters decide.

"Texas is surrounded by gambling. We have multiple casino's right on our state border in Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico."

Dunaway adds that Texans in 2010 spent up to 4 billion dollars gaming in outside states.

Local State Representative Jose Menedez has filed legislation that calls for a constitutional amendment to allow a limited number of resort casinos across the state, including here in San Antonio, and since the legislation calls for a constitutional amendment, it would leave the decision in the hands of the voters.

The legislation heads to committee on Tuesday, March 29.
